In order to support learners / new hackers, we are using several free and open source platforms.

  1. Internet Relay Chat (IRC) – via the Libera network

IRC Settings :

Server / Port 6697 with TLS (or, as it is often incorrectly called, SSL)
Channel : #tuxiversity
Or click webchat.

There are many others available, but we can’t be everywhere at the same time. The primary platform will be IRC.

How to paste lots of text in to chat.

There are times when we need to, or are asked to provide the output of a command or contents of a file, so that others can help.

As this can involve huge amounts of text, doing this inside the IRC chat is depreciated generally across the platform. The best way to do this, would be to use a service such as pastebinit. either from the command line or a website service. You then provide the chat, with the link you are given.

Please ask for help in the chat, as we will be using a service that is gdpr compliant.

2. From time to time, we may use the Big blue button – video conferencing platform. This will use an instance hosted on faircam. This is FULLY GDPR compliant. The room link is here.

Please note there is NO intention whatsoever of using proprietary software such as microsoft teams or zoom, therefore please do not ask about these.
