Chat

In order to support learners / new hackers, we are using several free and open source platforms.

  1. Internet Relay Chat (IRC) – via the Libera network

IRC Settings :

Server irc.libera.chat / Port 6697 with TLS (or, as it is often incorrectly called, SSL)
Channel : #tuxiversity
Or click webchat.

There are many others available, but we can’t be everywhere at the same time. The primary platform will be IRC.

Please ask for help in the chat, as we will be using a service that is gdpr compliant.

2. From time to time, we may use the Big blue button – video conferencing platform. This will use an instance hosted on faircam. This is FULLY GDPR compliant. The room link is here.

3. Matrix

An open network for secure, decentralised communication, you can sign up for a free account at Matrix.org and use a client such as Element to connect, or connect via the website.

At this time April 2025, we don’t have a specific room on Matrix, but some of us hang out in the Devon and Cornwall Linux user group chat. As there are a few projects on Matrix, it makes sense to be able to direct people to specific help channels.
